LONDON — Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has met with Baroness Gabrielle Bertin, the member of the House of Lords charged by the U.K. government with conducting a full review of the country's pornography laws.

This is the statement by FSC regarding the meeting:

Free Speech Coalition and a group of sex workers, producers and industry advocates met with UK Baroness Gabrielle Bertin, the member of the House of Lords charged with conducting a full review of the country's pornography laws. Baroness Burton reached out to FSC Executive Director Alison Boden in January, asking if the organization would participate in a discussion as part of the government’s Independent Pornography Review.

The Review’s Call for Evidence — a request for stakeholders to weigh in — says it seeks “to shed light on the associations between the pornography industry and the abuse, exploitation and trafficking that may pervade it.”

During the meeting, FSC implored the Review to focus on facts, not headlines. We challenged assumptions made suggesting that the adult industry was engaged in illegal activity, or that illegal content — such as revenge porn and CSAM — was tolerated or permitted on adult platforms. Most of all, we pressed for on-going discussions with workers and other stakeholders in the industry.

FSC was joined at the roundtable by representatives of Sex Workers Union, Adult Industry Association (AIA), UK Adult Producers (UKAP), Pineapple Support, and obscenity lawyer Miles Jackman, among others. We look forward to continuing the discussion with our allies, partners and the members of the Review team.

“While we’re certainly wary of the way the debate is being framed, it’s crucial to have a seat at the table,” says Boden. “We were glad to be invited and given the opportunity to contest misinformation and bad policy, it allows us to push for greater transparency and inclusion. We only lose by being silent.”

This week brought a momentous step forward in the fight against Pornhub and its parent company Aylo (formerly MindGeek).

After facing several lawsuits brought by courageous survivors of sex trafficking and child sexual abuse … After losing nearly all their major corporate partnerships including Visa and Mastercard, Instagram and Youtube … After being the subject of countless scathing media pieces … After a viral petition with more than 2 million signatures … Pornhub has FINALLY announced that it will be [kind of] verifying the age and consent of all individuals depicted in videos.

We celebrate this victory for survivors, whose resilience and bravery have been unmatched as they brought lawsuits and global attention to this kingpin of exploitation. At the same time, we urge caution. The loopholes in Pornhub’s new verification measures are abundant, and the policy change does not go far enough in removing and preventing sexual abuse.

The Loopholes in AYLO/Pornhub’s Verification Policy

While a positive step forward, there are major problems with Pornhub’s mediocre new age & consent verification policy. We must not allow this smoke and mirrors to slow down efforts to move them to meaningful change.

Firstly, the verification requirement only applies to videos uploaded from January 24, 2024 onward. Pornhub will NOT be removing unverified videos that were uploaded prior to this date. What this means is that the site is likely still infested with videos of rape, sex trafficking, child sexual abuse, and other forms of image-based sexual abuse, which Pornhub is choosing to continue profiting from.

Secondly, the verification measures required under the new policy are alarmingly weak. Pornhub only requires an ID and signed consent form for co-performers. Without a combination of automated tools and rigorous human moderation, these documents will be easily forged and/or coercively obtained by sex traffickers and abusers. We cannot allow ourselves to be beguiled by these initial measures. They do not constitute meaningful consent or effective age verification.

The assurance of a consent form, bereft of any tangible protective measures, not only fails to discourage those bent on profiting from abuse but also irresponsibly delegates the responsibility of consent to sexual exploiters, who are fundamentally untrustworthy. It only cements Pornhub’s partnership with those who revel in the degradation and exploitation of others.

In its current form, Pornhub’s new policy continues to abdicate the responsibility of safeguarding against the upload of non-consensual sexual content and child pornography. The system will easily be exploited by sex traffickers, voyeurs, child sexual abusers, and jilted ex-boyfriends, and Pornhub knows this.

For Pornhub’s new policy to be effective, it must require meaningful consent with documented risks and harms provided to the performer, pre-authorization and consent to sex acts, right of withdrawal of consent even after the footage is uploaded online, banning any video where the ID and face of all people depicted are confirmed as matching, and more. And these pornography sites can’t be allowed to outsource this responsibility to the uploaders. These are the kinds of measures NCOSE has always insisted on when we’ve called for meaningful consent and age verification.

Pornhub’s Policy Change Only Comes After Severe Pressure

As per usual, Pornhub is using its new policy change as a PR stunt, painting itself as a good, ethical company that has safety as its “highest priority”. Forgive our skepticism … But if safety is truly Pornhub’s highest priority, why are they only enacting watered down verification measures after years of relentless legal and public backlash that has severely damaged their business?

Let’s review some of the pressures Pornhub has faced leading up to this change:

Pornhub is the subject of 12 lawsuits in the U.S. and Canada

The U.S. federal government charged Pornhub with knowingly profiting from sex trafficking; Pornhub admitted to the crime

All major credit card companies and payment processors cut ties with Pornhub. The only payment form left available to them was cryptocurrency.

Nearly all mainstream corporations stopped serving as advertising or distribution partners for Pornhub. This includes Roku, Comcast, Kraft-Heinz, Unilever, TikTok, and Instagram.

Countless mainstream media outlets, such as the New York Times and the BBC, published scathing exposés on Pornhub’s abuses

Pornhub’s parent company laid off 70% of its employees, and the CEO and COO resigned

Exodus Cry led a public petition campaign calling for Pornhub to be shut down, which garnered over 2 million signatures.

And so much more…

Don’t be fooled. Pornhub is the farthest thing from a “good, ethical” company. They cannot be trusted, and we must continue to keep them under pressure and scrutiny, to ensure that their PR hype about age and consent verification turns into real, meaningful protection.

Pornhub Must Still Face Consequences for Years of Abuse

Finally, it must be emphasized that Pornhub’s new policy does NOT absolve the company of responsibility for all its former crimes. They still must face consequences. And they will, as lawsuits continue to move through the courts!

The NCOSE Law Center is currently serving as co-counsel in two lawsuits against Pornhub. Both have taken major steps forwards, with Pornhub’s motion to dismiss being denied and the class action case being certified.

Please help us ensure that Pornhub is held fully accountable for its crimes!

AIA invited to participate in an Independent Pornography Review In UKhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/blog/aia-participates-in-uk-porn-review2024-02-07T14:02:31.000Z2024-02-07T14:02:31.000ZAIA Administratorhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/members/admin

The days of being ridiculed, marginalised and discriminated against by society for being involved in the sex industry seem millions of miles away as Charlie Spice’s resume gets another big boost from the UK government department of Science, Innovation and Technology.

As the Founder/President of the umbrella organisation Adult Industry Association (AIA), Charlie Spice has received an invitation from the government to participate in a round table discussion to review the pornography legislation and enforcement in the UK, to identify gaps in the regulation which allow exploitation and abuse to take place online.

This Independent Pornography Review will also look at how effective the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, is in responding to illegal pornographic content, as well as consider what more can be done to provide information and resources on the potential impact of pornography.

The first book of its kind to investigate Britain’s trade in illicit pornographic 8mm film.

Prior to 2000, it was a criminal offense to sell hardcore pornography in Britain. Despite this, there was a thriving alternative economy producing and distributing such material “under the counter” of Soho’s bookshops and via mail-order. British entrepreneurs circumvented obscenity laws to satisfy the demand for uncensored adult films and profit from their enterprise, with corrupt members of the Metropolitan Police’s Obscene Publications Squad permitting them to trade.

By the late 1960s, Britain had developed an international reputation for producing “rollers,” short hardcore films distributed on 8mm, which were smuggled out of Britain for sale in Western Europe. Following an exposé by Britain’s tabloid press, a crackdown on police corruption, and several high-profile obscenity trials, the trade was all but decimated, with pornography smuggled in from Europe dominating the market.

Drawing on extensive archival research, including the use of legal records, police files, media reportage, and interviews with those who were involved in the business, Under the Counter tells the story of Britain’s trade in 8mm hardcore pornographic films and its regulation.

This is part of AIA’s global campaign to establish strategic partnerships with Ministries Of Health, UN, WHO, PAHO and other international organisations to assist their efforts to mitigate the impact of the activities of sex workers worldwide on the spread of this deadly virus.

Lewis says, “ With our superior knowledge, understanding, contacts, credibility and communication capability within the local sex and adult entertainment industry, AIA is ideally qualified to provide assistance as follows.”

Therefore, in the interest of protecting the health of the sex workers and the wider community, AIA is poised and ready to join the fight.

Lewis further says, “It is also important to note that Covid-19 is contributing to the exponential growth of the sex trade. The unprecedented number of layoffs, loss of income and the uncertainty of the markets brought about by this pandemic is resulting in a significant increase in the number of people turning to sex work in a desperate effort to survive their personal economic downturn.”

“As we all know, “Sex Sells” regardless to the presence of Covid-19, recession or any other global crisis. Therefore, we should all be mindful of the fact the sex workers will continue to ply their trade inspite of the protocols, and therein lies the risk of community spread. The industry is also shrouded in anonymity thus posing a greater challenge to contact tracing.”

The AIA team is confident in their ability to make a valuable contribution in the fight against Covid-19 and are looking forward to a successful collaboration with its partners.

Commercial sex workers in Montego Bay say they have been left penniless over the entire Christmas holidays due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The disgruntled women told THE STAR that 2020 has been their worst year.

"Wi caa stay pon road fi greet wi customer dem again, and most a dem as yu know come pick wi up inna the later part a di night, but wid dem new restrictions yah massa, no sex naw sell again."

She said the municipal authorities keeping vendors off the road has also hampered their business, as they often get clients "Wen a man come buy him cigarette or him liquor" from the vendors. Tulip, who was sitting with four co-workers along Harbour Street, said even the early closure of businesses due to the curfew, has affected them.

"Normally inna di night wi have some little corner inside a some building weh wi carry a customer go do a quicky, fi a $500, or a $1,000, but di business place dem affe lock off early a nite time now, so wi lose all a dem little hustling deh," she said. Other workers say they have been barely getting by since November.

Another worker, who identified herself as Wendy, said some of them used to make $20,000 or $30,000 a night.

"Seet yah, a from morning mi out yah so, an not even a dolla mi nu mek yet. Di thing set a way yah now, because nuff a di man dem fraid fi buy a day time.
They said that if things continue at the current pace, in 2021, they are strongly thinking of creating a formal group to lobby for themselves.

Webcam Models Working Remotely In Barbadoshttps://adultindustryassociation.org/blog/working-remotely-in-barbados2020-11-29T15:35:48.000Z2020-11-29T15:35:48.000ZAIA Administratorhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/members/admin

The identity of the sex worker has not yet been released, but NBC reports that she says Falls attempted to strangle her, at which point she gained control of his firearm and shot him in self-defense. West Virginia found what they referred to as a "kill kit" in the back of Falls' car, and say they suspect that Falls was responsible for the near-decade-old disappearances or deaths of four other sex workers in Las Vegas, and perhaps up to six additional women in Chillicothe, Ohio.More like thisNYC Human Rights Commissioner Carmelyn Malalis Is The Future Of Restorative JusticeBy Brianna KovanThe Impact Of SCOTUS’ LGBTQ Discrimination Ruling, According To One Person Who’s Lived ItBy Jennifer GersonAn “Overwhelming Majority” Of Rape Cases In The UK Are Being Dropped, Warn CampaignersBy Alice BrosterWhere Does The Grenfell Tower Inquiry Stand Now? The Families Are Still Waiting For JusticeBy Rebecca FearnThe case draws startling but necessary attention to the danger facing sex workers in the U.S. today. Because prostitution is illegal in every U.S. state except Nevada, sex workers are a particularly vulnerable population, and unfortunately have very few legal protections. Thankfully, there are some amazing groups across the U.S. that are active in the fight for sex worker rights and justice. While there are movements to decriminalize sex work in order to protect the rights and safety of sex workers, that victory is still a long way off. In the meantime, sex workers and allies are working diligently to obtain additional legal and social protections, and to remove the taboo and stigma surrounding the industry. Here are three organizations that are boldly standing on the front line of the battle for sex worker rights in the U.S.Sex Workers ProjectThe Sex Workers Project (SWP) operates out of the Urban Justice Center in New York City. SWP provides legal and social services to sex workers, assisting anyone involved with prostitution, including those who are victimized by human trafficking. Seeking to create safe conditions and provide resources to sex workers, SWP also aims to eliminate sex trafficking, and provides assistance to those who are suffering due to forced sex work. You can learn more about the SWP, and donate to the project, at swp.urbanjustice.org.Sex Workers Outreach Project-USAThe primary focuses of the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) are providing media justice for sex workers and educating the public about myths and facts related to sex work. SWOP operates on both national and local levels. On the national scale, SWOP "helps build stronger communities and a stronger movement through technical assistance, funding, and direct support and advocacy." Locally, SWOP works to "address structural, cultural, and interpersonal violence individuals in the sex trade face by working to change attitudes, change policies, and create alternative community-led systems of support." They also run a confidential support hotline, which can be reached at (877)-776-2004.Desiree AllianceThe Desiree Alliance is an organization led by current and former sex workers. Their mission is to reduce harm in the sex worker community, as well as provide political advocacy and health services. The Alliance's primary objective is to "reinvigorate the sex workers' rights movement in the U.S." They also hold a conference every three years, each centered around a new theme pertaining to sex work and sex worker rights. They are situated in a myriad of social and environmental contexts…Past and current studies suggest that there are many different types of female sex workers, including ‘call girls’ and escorts working in the upper echelons of the sex industry, ‘in-house’ sex workers working in parlors or brothels, ‘street-walkers’ who sell sex for money through sidewalk solicitations, part-timers who supplement their incomes with sex-for-pay, and drug-involved street-based sex workers, the majority of whom shift between sex-for-money and sex-for-drug exchanges as circumstances require.”July 2005 - Hilary L. Surratt, PhD Christine Harcourt, PhD, Research Fellow for the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology & Clinical Research at the University of New South Wales, and Basil Donovan, MD, Professor of Sexual Health at National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research of the University of New South Wales, in their June 2005 Sexually Transmitted Infections article “The Many Faces of Sex Work,” wrote:“At least 25 types of sex work were identified according to worksite, principal mode of soliciting clients, or sexual practices. These types of work are often grouped under the headings of ‘direct’ and ‘indirect’ prostitution, with the latter group less likely to be perceived or to perceive themselves as sex workers…”Direct Forms of ProstitutionNumber Type of Prostitution Geographic Distribution1. Street: Clients solicited on the street, park or other public places. Serviced in side streets, vehicles, or short stay premises Widespread, particularly if alternative work sites are unavailable (United States, Europe, United Kingdom, Australasia) and/or there is socioeconomic breakdown (eastern Europe, parts of Africa, south and South East Asia, and Latin America)2. Brothel: Premises explicitly dedicated to providing sex. Better security than street. Often licensed by authorities Preferred where sex work is decriminalised or brothels are ‘tolerated.’ (Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, India, Europe, Latin America)3. Escort: Client contacts sex worker by phone or via hotel staff. Most covert form of sex work. Relatively expensive because of low client turnover. Service provided at client’s home or hotel room Ubiquitous. In the United States escorts and private workers contacted by phone and working from a ‘call book’ are known as ‘call girls’ or ‘call men’4. Private: Client contacts sex worker by phone. Similar to escorts except services provided in sex worker’s premises. A variant in London and other big cities is ‘flat’ prostitution—high cost services in rented, serviced, inner city units United Kingdom, Europe, United States, and Australia. Sometimes doorway (see below) and street sex workers bring clients home5. Window or doorway: Brothels with sex workers on public display. Windows preferred in cold climates, doorways in warmer places Window prostitution almost unique to Amsterdam and Hamburg. Doorway prostitution found in less affluent areas of European cities and in African and other developing countries6. Club, pub, bar, karaoke bar, dance hall: Clients solicited in alcohol vending venues and serviced on site or elsewhere Ubiquitous depending on types of male club available7. Other all-male venues: Clients solicited in all-male venues such as barbershops, bathhouses, saunas, and mining camps. Serviced on site or elsewhere Ubiquitous8. Door knock or hotel: Unattached males are approached in their hotel rooms or boarding houses Hotels worldwide and wherever large numbers of unaccompanied males reside9. Transport (ship, truck, train): Sex workers may board vehicles to service the crew or passengers or pick up clients at stations and terminals Ubiquitous10. CB radio: Sex workers drive along highways using CB radio to exchange (jargon) messages with potential truck driver clients. Serviced at truck stops or parking areas United States11. Other methods of solicitation: Through various media including noticeboard and newspaper advertisements, ‘sex worker catalogues’ with mobile phone numbers, the internet via virtual brothels, etc. Services are delivered mostly in brothels and other indoor venues Ubiquitous, but internet and mobile phone services are mostly confined to large cities in developed countries—particularly the United Kingdom and Sweden where legislation limits other forms of advertisingIndirect Forms of Prostitution12. Bondage and discipline: sexual fantasy through role play. May involve the inflicting of pain, but genital contact is not routine Apparently unique to wealthier countries13. Lap dancing: A recent development involving erotic dancing at close quarters without sexual contact Predominantly wealthier countries—often takes place in hotels and clubs14. Massage parlour: Premises ostensibly dedicated to providing massage, but a range of sexual services may be provided. In South East Asia similar arrangements may apply in barbershops Europe, South East Asia, and Australia15. Travelling entertainers: Actors, dancers and others involved in entertainment may also provide sexual services South East Asia16. Beer girls: Young women hired by major companies to promote and sell products in bars and clubs. Sexual services sold to supplement income Cambodia, Uganda, other developing countries17. Street vendors and traders: Ostensibly marketing rural produce or other goods but supplementing income with sexual services Widespread in developing countries18. Opportunistic: A person approached in a social venue may occasionally choose to charge for sexual favours if the client appears wealthy enough Ubiquitous19. Femme libre: Women, usually single or divorced, who exchange sexual services for gifts. The gifts are then converted to cash Central Africa20. Individual arrangements: The single mother who may have sex with her landlord in place of rent. Older sex workers who only deal with a small number of regular clients, by appointment. ‘Kept’ women or men. Concubines. The number of possible arrangements is vast Ubiquitous21. Swingers clubs: Some swingers or couples sex clubs employ (undisclosed) sex workers if there is a shortage of female guests Predominantly wealthier countries22. Geisha: Women engaged primarily to provide social company, but sex may ensue Japanese cities23. ‘Sex for drugs’: Women providing fellatio for crack cocaine in crack houses. Young homosexual men in Western countries may provide opportunistic sexual services paid with drugs Crack houses are unique to the United States24. Beachboys, bumsters, and gigolos: Men and boys engaged by women ostensibly for social purposes but sex is often involved. Some beachboys are under aged and many also service male clients Resorts, particularly in developing countries25. Survival sex: A matter of degree, where starvation or other serious deprivation is imminent, particularly for dependants. Food or security may be the currency, rather than money Refugee camps anywhereJune 2005 - Christine Harcourt, PhD Basil Donovan, MD
Why Sex Work Should Be Decriminalizedhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/blog/why-sex-work-should-be-decriminalized2020-07-10T17:32:33.000Z2020-07-10T17:32:33.000ZAdmin Teamhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/members/MammaMia
Source: https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/08/07/why-sex-work-should-be-decriminalizedHuman Rights Watch has conducted research on sex work around the world, including in Cambodia, China, Tanzania, the United States, and most recently, South Africa. The research, including extensive consultations with sex workers and organizations that work on the issue, has shaped the Human Rights Watch policy on sex work: Human Rights Watch supports the full decriminalization of consensual adult sex work. Why is criminalization of sex work a human rights issue?Criminalizing adult, voluntary, and consensual sex – including the commercial exchange of sexual services – is incompatible with the human right to personal autonomy and privacy. In short – a government should not be telling consenting adults who they can have sexual relations with and on what terms.Criminalization exposes sex workers to abuse and exploitation by law enforcement officials, such as police officers. Human Rights Watch has documented that, in criminalized environments, police officers harass sex workers, extort bribes, and physically and verbally abuse sex workers, or even rape or coerce sex from them.Human Rights Watch has consistently found in research across various countries that criminalization makes sex workers more vulnerable to violence, including rape, assault, and murder, by attackers who see sex workers as easy targets because they are stigmatized and unlikely to receive help from the police. Criminalization may also force sex workers to work in unsafe locations to avoid the police.Criminalization consistently undermines sex workers’ ability to seek justice for crimes against them. Sex workers in South Africa, for example, said they did not report armed robbery or rape to the police. They said that they are afraid of being arrested because their work is illegal and that their experience with police is of being harassed or profiled and arrested, or laughed at or not taken seriously. Even when they report crimes, sex workers may not be willing to testify in court against their assailants and rapists for fear of facing sanctions or further abuse because of their work and status.UNAIDS, public health experts, sex worker organizations, and other human rights organizations have found that criminalization of sex work also has a negative effect on sex workers’ right to health. In one example, Human Rights Watch found in a 2012 report, “Sex Workers at Risk: Condoms as Evidence of Prostitution in Four US Cities,” that police and prosecutors used a sex worker’s possession of condoms as evidence to support prostitution charges. The practice left sex workers reluctant to carry condoms for fear of arrest, forcing them to engage in sex without protection and putting them at heightened risk of contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.Criminalization also has a negative effect on other human rights. In countries that ban sex work, sex workers are less likely to be able to organize as workers, advocate for their rights, or to work together to support and protect themselves. How does decriminalizing sex work help protect sex workers?Decriminalizing sex work maximizes sex workers’ legal protection and their ability to exercise other key rights, including to justice and health care. Legal recognition of sex workers and their occupation maximizes their protection, dignity, and equality. This is an important step toward destigmatizing sex work.Does decriminalizing sex work encourage other human rights violations such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children?Sex work is the consensual exchange of sex between adults. Human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children are separate issues. They are both serious human rights abuses and crimes and should always be investigated and prosecuted.Laws that clearly distinguish between sex work and crimes like human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children help protect both sex workers and crime victims. Sex workers may be in a position to have important information about crimes such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children, but unless the work they themselves do is not treated as criminal, they are unlikely to feel safe reporting this information to the police. What should governments do?Governments should fully decriminalize sex work and ensure that sex workers do not face discrimination in law or practice. They should also strengthen services for sex workers and ensure that they have safe working conditions and access to public benefits and social safety nets. Moreover, any regulations and controls on sex workers and their activities need to be nondiscriminatory and otherwise comply with international human rights law. For example, restrictions that would prevent those engaged in sex work from organizing collectively, or working in a safe environment, are not legitimate restrictions. Why does Human Rights Watch support full decriminalization rather than the “Nordic model?”The “Nordic model,” first introduced in Sweden, makes buying sex illegal, but does not prosecute the seller, the sex worker. Proponents of the Nordic model see “prostitution” as inherently harmful and coerced; they aim to end sex work by killing the demand for transactional sex. Disagreement between organizations seeking full decriminalization of sex work and groups supporting the Nordic model has been a contentious issue within the women’s rights community in many countries and globally.Human Rights Watch supports full decriminalization rather than the Nordic model because research shows that full decriminalization is a more effective approach to protecting sex workers’ rights. Sex workers themselves also usually want full decriminalization. The Nordic model appeals to some politicians as a compromise that allows them to condemn buyers of sex but not people they see as having been forced to sell sex. But the Nordic model actually has a devastating impact on people who sell sex to earn a living. Because its goal is to end sex work, it makes it harder for sex workers to find safe places to work, unionize, work together and support and protect one another, advocate for their rights, or even open a bank account for their business. It stigmatizes and marginalizes sex workers and leaves them vulnerable to violence and abuse by police as their work and their clients are still criminalized.Isn’t sex work a form of sexual violence? No. When an adult makes a decision of her, his, or their own free will to exchange sex for money, that is not sexual violence. When a sex worker is the victim of a crime, including sexual violence, the police should promptly investigate and refer suspects for prosecution. When a person exchanges sex for money as a result of coercion – for example by a pimp – or experiences violence from a pimp or a customer, or is a victim of trafficking, these are serious crimes. The police should promptlyinvestigate and refer the case for prosecution.Sex workers are often exposed to high levels of violence and other abuse or harm, but this is usually because they are working in a criminalized environment. Research by Human Rights Watch and others indicates that decriminalization can help reduce crime, including sexual violence, against sex workers.Aside from decriminalizing sex work, what other policies does Human Rights Watch support with regard to sex workers’ rights?People engaged in voluntary sex work may come from backgrounds of poverty or marginalization and face discrimination and inequality, including in their access to the job market. With this in mind, Human Rights Watch supports measures to improve the human rights situation for sex workers, including research and access to education, financial support, job training and placement, social services, and information. Human Rights Watch also encourages efforts to address discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, or immigration status affecting sex workers.Human Rights Watch research documenting abuse against sex workers:Why We’ve Filed a Lawsuit Against a US Federal Law Targeting Sex Workers, June 2018Greece: Police Abusing Marginalized People: Target the Homeless, Drug Users, Sex Workers in Athens, March 2015“I’m Scared to Be a Woman”: Human Rights Abuses Against Transgender People in Malaysia, September 2014In Harm’s Way: State Response to Sex Workers, Drug Users and HIV in New Orleans, December 2013“Swept Away”: Abuses Against Sex Workers in China, May 2013“Treat Us Like Human Beings”: Discrimination against Sex Workers, Sexual and Gender Minorities, and People Who Use Drugs in Tanzania, June 2013Off the Streets: Arbitrary Detention and Other Abuses against Sex Workers in Cambodia, July 2010Sex Workers at Risk: Condoms as Evidence of Prostitution in Four US Cities, July 2012
15 Sex Workers on Why—and How—They Got Into the Businesshttps://adultindustryassociation.org/blog/15-sex-workers-on-why-and-how-they-got-into-the-business2020-07-01T22:28:48.000Z2020-07-01T22:28:48.000ZAdmin Teamhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/members/MammaMia

Source: https://www.glamour.com/story/15-sex-industry-workers-in-their-own-words

Sex work" can be a fraught term in our culture. For those of us who grew up on the most common depictions of people who work in the sex industry, the phrase might conjure images of tragic women who have been trafficked into selling sex against their will. And although that type of sex work is very real, there's also a much richer tapestry of those who work in the sex industry than what we're often exposed to through news stories and pop culture. The real stories of webcam models, dominatrices, and porn stars are often very different from the tropes we see in flashy (and often irresponsible) headlines about sex, drugs, and crime. The commercial online economy is a highly competitive one. The information, interactions and enticements on offer are there primarily to persuade you to part with as much information as possible, intentionally or otherwise. This information can be reused to further refine targeting of information or services, to increase the appeal of otherwise uninteresting offers or perhaps the emotional timeliness of a product or service.

Recent coverage of the app-related activities of Facebook, and to a lesser extent Google, has been damning. These internet giants have made no secret over the years of their desire to collect as much data as possible about each and every one of us, and to use that data for commercial advantage. Just this week a German court has issued an order to stop Facebook from combining data collected across its various platforms and services.

While Facebook et al undoubtedly broke Apple's App Store rules through the misuse of enterprise certificates to distribute these data-collection apps, deliberately circumventing Apple’s safeguards, this story is worthy of deeper consideration.

In the case of the “Facebook Research” app all participants were volunteers, anyone underage had parental consent forms signed and all participants were financially rewarded for their participation on a monthly basis. In effect, Facebook allowed individuals to realize an ongoing income from their own personal data, rather than giving it away in return for access to online enticements, which has become the norm in the online economy. Of course, there is a separate conversation to be had about how truly “informed” the consent was and whether participants really grasped the level of access they were granting. Conversely there is also much legitimate digging to be done into how much unauthorized data Facebook hoovered up through these practices (the other participants in a WhatsApp group chat for example?). While there may have been issues with the format of the consent forms, the distribution mechanism and much more, I can’t help feeling that the media coverage is at risk of killing off something that could eventually be an effective global mechanism for more granular privacy and for income.

An entire data brokerage industry has already sprung from the nutrient-rich soil of our digital footprints. Our data is catalogued and combined with the traces we leave behind in the physical world, correlated and mined to reach conclusions far beyond those we might perhaps be comfortable with publicizing, and then sold as a commodity or a subscription-based service to any interested party. It is an industry based on our ignorance and our nonchalance.

We have legal definitions for a data controller, a data processor and a data subject. An oddity which lands each of us in the bizarre situation where we are subjects of our own data rather being able to assert any notion of ownership over it, even GDPR does not explicitly give an answer on personal data ownership. With data ownership comes the right to grant or deny access to that data and to be responsible for its accuracy and integrity. Imagine the income potential if this became the norm, rather than the exception. Imagine how liberating it would be for individuals to be able to reassert ownership over their own personal data and to license it in whichever way they chose, rather than “paying” with it and sacrificing control.

We already juggle multiple online identities, each with different usage and consumption profiles (personal, shopping, financial, gaming, social, governmental, professional and more) and there are many industries that would pay for access to that behavioral data, particularly if there were no other way to access it.

Imagine a data brokerage platform that enables you to license out access to your personal data, request by request. One that enables it to be tied to more ephemeral concepts such as the “persona” you inhabited at the time, creating a much more nuanced data landscape for advertisers and service providers to mine. An identity management service that monetizes your data on your behalf every single time that a discrete data point is processed rather than captured, one that monitors your online personae, data and reputation and alerts you to suspicious or anomalous content or data use, flagging in advance data you may not want to share, could be a vital future industry.

Personal information is a digital good that commands a financial premium and right now it is others who realize those gains. It’s time we advocated for real ownership of our own data.

'I wouldn't date someone who isn't rich': Sugar baby, 25, admits she spends £4,000 a month on designer bags and lavish holidays - paid for by MUCH older men (but she insists she's not an escort)https://adultindustryassociation.org/blog/i-wouldn-t-date-someone-who-isn-t-rich-sugar-baby-25-admits-she-s2020-06-29T13:14:24.000Z2020-06-29T13:14:24.000ZAdmin Teamhttps://adultindustryassociation.org/members/MammaMia

Source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3900888/Simone-Toone-reveals-lavish-London-lifestyle-funded-sugar-daddies.html

Sugar baby Simone Toon claims to be a professional 'lady of leisure' - and refuses to give it up.

The 25-year-old, originally from Northamptonshire, is invited to glamorous parties, given thousands of pounds to splash on designer bags and shoes and is whisked away on exotic holidays by older, wealthy men.

Simone's lavish lifestyle - which she estimates costs £4,000 a month - is funded by sugar daddies, aged up to 62, who pay for her serviced London apartments, gym membership, holidays, designer clothes – and even her two boob jobs.

Lady of leisure: Simone Toon, from Northamptonshire, refuses to date unsuccessful men

Jet set: Simone, 25, seen on the beach in Dubai, wakes up at noon to work out for two hours

She said: 'A sugar baby is somebody who lives a nice lifestyle, living in luxury. That's news to me...

"Being able to make my own schedule and be in control of my own small business allows me incredible freedoms" Sarah Greenmore has worked as a sex worker in Nevada for a year and a half ( Sarah Greenmore/Twitter )

I've been working in Nevada's legal brothels for almost a year and a half now. In this time I've learned a lot about sexuality, psychology and relationships. My job is a mix of customer service and fantasy fulfillment, and I love it. It suits my needs and allows me financial stability I never had access to before. However, what I've noticed since starting this career is that there is a lot that the general public doesn't seem to get about sex work. Here are some of the biggest misconceptions:

1. 'Sex work is lazy – and easy'

I can describe my job many ways, but never as easy. I work a 12-14 hour shift each day, and during this time I'm juggling my four social media accounts, two professional email addresses, posting on multiple industry message boards, scheduling client appointments, arranging radio interviews, writing essays online, and cleaning meticulously.

I'm also meeting countless visitors of the brothel, taking them on tours, gauging their interest, pulling teeth to figure out exactly what they desire, then negotiating prices. That's before the sex even starts, in which I'm generally doing most of the physical workload, putting emotional labor to make my clients feel at ease, listening to their deepest confessions, and trying to make sure they get their money's worth.

Sex work is a physically intimate therapy session for most of our clients. Many workers who work independently also have to schedule hotel rooms, vet their clients to make sure they aren't dangerous, run their own websites and handle marketing.

2. 'Sex workers spread disease'

In Nevada, all the state's thousands of legally working sexual companions have mandatory STD testing every week. There has never been a case of HIV reported in the brothel system in Nevada. We use condoms for all of our services – including condoms for blow jobs and dental dams for cunnilingus.

We take our health seriously: just like a massage therapist or a labor contractor, if our bodies aren't in top shape, we can't pay our bills, feed ourselves or support our families. To jeopardise our health and our clients' health for one client's desires could ruin our reputation and cost us our jobs. So we take many precautions to protect ourselves and our clients.

3. 'Only creeps, losers and desperate guys visit sex workers'

You'd be surprised at the range of people who walk through our doors. We entertain middle-aged couples looking to spice up their love life. Young military veterans visit struggling to transition back into civilian life and dating. Respectable business men, lawyers, doctors, and professionals who are overworked without time for dating. Men with Asperger's who find navigating traditional social relationships challenging and confusing. For many, seeing a sex worker is more than just the act of sex.

We provide a safe space to be comfortable with sexuality and physical intimacy. Clients are able to let their barriers down and have a connection with a near stranger and it is often highly therapeutic for them. We're also teachers, guiding our virgin clients through sex and intimacy for the first time. Our clients treat us with respect and adoration, and are as kind to us as we are to them. Shaming our clients demonises their sexuality, which is repressive and judgmental.

4. 'Sex workers hate their jobs'

There's a saying that goes “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Somehow that went out the window with sex work, at least in society's eyes. We chose this job because it suits our needs financially and to some, a spiritual or sexual level, others, its simply an income source and there's nothing wrong with that.

Our work is deeply personal and intimate. We see people at their most vulnerable, when they're naked and expressing their inner most desires. These desires may have been hidden away for years, decades. The relationships I develop with my clients are genuine and I'm happy to see them leave basking in a glow, relaxed and relieved. Making people feel good about themselves brings me a profound sense of happiness.

I have heard on so many occasions “Thank you, I needed this.” “I've never felt more relaxed.” Being able to make my own schedule and be in control of my own small business allows me incredible freedoms. I can take off three months, six months, two years from work and know my employment will always be welcomed back. I don't drink heavily and I don't use drugs to get through a shift. I never dread going to work.

5. 'Sex workers are broken'

“Her parents must be proud”

“Get an education, sleeze”

“She must have daddy issues”

“I wonder how much drugs she needs to get through a shift"

All of these are real comments I've heard online or in person. The notion that my profession is a last resort for a broken, uneducated woman with a drug habit is a disservice to the range of people who choose to be sex workers. It's dehumanising, and allows the continued violence and social stigma against sex workers to thrive.

Keeping our industry in the shadows keeps an unfair power balance in the hands of law enforcement and clients who mean us harm. We are human beings, who for many different reasons, but one main one – to provide for ourselves – have chosen sex work as our occupation. It is a valuable and desired service, and will always exist. So we need to bring sex work into the realm of decriminalisation or legalisation, and provide safety, social services and basic human rights to some of the most vulnerable in our society.

Sarah Greenmore is a courtesan working at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, located outside of Reno, Nevada.
In the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests which were triggered by the murder of George Floyd, the management of Adult Industry Association (AIA) has received numerous complaints about systemic racism within the sex and adult industry.

Complaints were received from black Porn Performers, CamModels, Escorts, Strippers and other adult professionals.

In response, the AIA has decided to launch an initiative to galvanised the support of all black professionals worldwide to fight racism.
