A champion figure skater who has skated for Team USA and Team Philippines has had a change of career and is now a famous adult film star.
Former figure skater, who went under the name Melissa Bulanhagui, now goes by Jada Kai and is a famous adult film star in the porn industry.
The 29-year-old was born in Philadelphia to Filipino parents and was raised under a strict Catholic upbringing.
Recently, she spoke to fellow porn star Asa Akira on The Pornhub Podcast and shared her journey to porn stardom.
Jada explained: “I was on Team USA for five years, I grew up skating, my parents were super-Asian and they pushed me in the sport.
“I ended up being super successful in it from age 14 to college. Then I switched to Team Philippines, in 2011, and competed for them for two years. ”
Whilst being a teen prodigy, Jada spent all of her time either at school or training.
She said: “I was a very good girl when I was a kid – training was my childhood.”
Yet as she became older, this became to change and Jada was soon rebelling.
Jada commented: “After high school, I became a horny girl – I was terrified of becoming an old virgin.
“So, I got in-touch with my slutty roots.
“It was hard for me, I felt like people would judge me because skating was a super-conservative sport and the circle’s so small.
“I remember when I lost my virginity I felt the need to tell everyone.”
Just before the Sochi Olympics, Jada left the world of skating due to an injury.
She told Asa: “I won nationals and Olympics qualifiers were around the corner.
“And when I asked the team about the application, they said ‘oh, we’re gonna send the junior champion instead…’
“I had sacrificed everything, and I was good.”
Following this, Jada travelled to Thailand and began to teach training skaters all the tricks of the trade.
She said: “I lived in Thailand and helped them build their skating programme.
“But, it was really hard for me – I was 20 at the time and I had to train coaches and be in a leadership position. It was so hard to do.”
As she found she was having such a difficult time, Jada bounced on her Thai contract and returned to the US.
She ended up living in a small town based in Colorado and began to train skaters again – as it was all she had ever known. To make extra cash, she would also work as a bartender and in a shop.
She commented: “I was burning out, I started drinking so much more.”
Frustrated with her life, she decided to follow a friend out to California. She decided that she wanted to work in something that she could do remotely and thinking of what only made her feel tenser. To try and relax, she decided to watch some porn.
She said: “Then I came across webcamming.
“I started watching documentaries on them and so I tried it and I made like $200.”
Jada continued: “I was able to make cash that night, so I just started doing it.
“I told my roommate and he was so supportive.”
As her roommate was so supportive, he actually took an interest in her new career change and followed in her footsteps.
Although she is relatively new to the world of porn, having only been working for a year or so in the studio setting, Jada is focused on being in control of the situation and producing her own content.
She said: “I wanted to grow my career a little bit more, and then I got an offer from Reality Kings on their new channel called ‘true amateurs’ and I shot three scenes for them.”
