Most are now left stuck at home as a precaution against the COVID-19 pandemic. For partners, this could pose a problem especially if they get the urge to have sexual intercourse. But then again, there are ways to satisfy that urge. That includes masturbation or through the aid of some sex toy. That said, it comes to no surprise that the demand for them has experienced a spike in the past couple of months.
Based on the latest data released from several sex toy companies, there has been a noted spike in sales compared to the previous year. For example, Adam and Eve reported a 30 percent increase via online sales in March and April compared to their figures from 2019. Aside from them, other companies are showing increased sales as well like Wow Tech Group, the owner of We-Vibe and Womanizer. Their sales were 200 percent higher in April compared to last year.
The increase in online sales from other sex toy companies is likely to experience the same. And for as long as the COVID-19 is in the air, revenues are likely to be rewarding for as long as most are forced to stay quarantined in their homes.
However, some businesses have not been so lucky. According to the New York Times, several brick-and-mortar sex shops have not exactly enjoyed similar success. Some have transitioned to online means but are having difficulty competing with bigger online retailers. These are the businesses that rely on traditional foot traffic and interpersonal connections. To cope up, they may have to find ways to efficiently market their business via online means.
In a previous post, it was discussed how this phenomenon is unsurprising. People are holed up at home and having sex is something that some may have trouble abstaining from. But there is a risk involved in doing so. The chances of COVID-19 infection are lower for partners living under the same roof. Still, a study suggested that it may be best to wear face masks, among others, to satisfy their sexual urges. That would include no kissing and oral-to-oral contact, which would be a bit weird for some.
Though abstinence was seen as the best recourse, the fact of the matter is that not all can hold off their sexual needs for long. With no clear cure for the coronavirus available, sex toys and oddly performing intercourse appear to be the only sensible way to resort to for now.
